Pocket Bag With Braided Strap

Pocket Bag With Braided Strap

You will need 2 skeins of Chunky yarn in 2 different colors.
I used bright blue (color A) for the bag and soft white (color
B) for the pocket.

Let’s do the braided strap first. Cut 6 pieces of yarn 24
inches in length each. Tie them together in a knot on one end,
leaving about a 4 inch tassel on the other side of the knot.
Using 2 strands of yarn per braid strand, braid the yarn until
it’s the length you want. Tie a knot on the other end, leaving
about a 4 inch tassel. Set it aside for later.

For the bag, cast on 25 stitches with Color A. Knit for 84 rows
(42 ridges) or until it’s the length you want. Bind off loosely.

Lay the bag so that the garter stitch ridges are horizontal (side
to side) and not vertical (up and down). Take the bottom corners
and fold the piece in half so that the bottom corners are directly
on top of the top corners. Sew the side seams and weave in the
loose ends.

For the pocket, cast on 15 stitches with Color B. Knit for 22
rows (11 ridges) or until it’s the size you want. Bind off
loosely. Sew the pocket onto the bag and weave in loose ends.

Attach your braided strap to the side seams on the outside rim
of the bag.
